Festival Staff
Neelam Vaswani -Festival Production Manager- is originally from Atlanta, GA. She received her BA from Brenau University, in affiliation with The Gainesville Theater Alliance. She was the Resident Stage Manager for the Warehouse Theatre in Greenville, SC where she stage managed over 25 main stage shows in 2 years, before she made her way to New York. She spent her first year in New York with The Juilliard School as a professional intern, where she stage managed in the areas of Drama, Dance, and Opera. In her many years of Stage Management, Neelam has found her home among the Puppetry World. She has stage managed a variety of puppet productions including Mabou Mines Peter and Wendy, which was recently featured in The International Edinburgh Festival. Other puppetry Credits include: The Adventures of Charcoal Boy, Basil Twists La Bella Dormente nel Bosco, Master Peters Puppet Show, and Dogugaeshi. Neelam is the Production Stage Manager for Basil Twists hit production of Arias With A Twist that had a 7-month extended run at the HERE Arts Center in NY; it was also showcased in festivals in Maubeuge and Paris, France and recently performed Stockholm, Sweden. Arias with A Twist is currently running at REDCAT in Los Angeles. Neelam has been with the Voice 4 Vision Puppet Festival since its birth in 2004. She has served as both the Production Manger and Production Stage Manager for 5 seasons of the Festival. This year Neelam continues to serve as Production Manager and is excited that the festival is back in full force.
Karen Oughtred -Festival Stage Manager - is founder and Artistic Director of the New York based Australian Aboriginal Theatre Initiative (AATI), which presents new plays to American audiences by established and emerging international Indigenous artists. She is a director and educator who has introduced, taught and developed Process Drama programs, mask and puppetry workshops for a wide variety of populations including museum visitors, disadvantaged youth, the disabled, seniors, gifted and talented and Indigenous peoples. Karen is a graduate of New Actors Workshop (Mike Nichols, Paul Sills, George Morrison) and gained her MA at Antioch Uni. Karen is production stage manager for a variety of theatre and dance companies in New York City, including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
Tsubasa Kamei-Festival Lighting Designer- is a freelance NYC based lighting designer. His latest work is a new musical called Top of the Heap (Neal J. Freeman) at The Gallery Players. His work also includes: American Dance Guild Performance Festival (Tina Croll, etc.) at MMAC; Face the Music and Dance! (Tina Croll, etc); Scattered Lives (Bob Kuwayama); May-Dec with the Nose and Clammy (Ava Geffen) at Fringe Festival 09; The Tempest (Mary Robinson); Take Me Out (Rose Bonczek); Spain (Ava Geffen); Shakespeare's R&J (William Addis); The Mystery Plays (Christian O'Neil); The Fighting Days (Pamela Brusoski); Red Light Winter (Christopher Thomasson); all at Brooklyn College. Tsubasa is also the recepiant of the Eve Adamson Lighting Design Award from Phoenix Theatre Ensemble. He is currently working with the company for their upcoming production of No Exit (Elise Stone), which opens at the Wild Project in December.
