Miniature Luxury Accordion Box Menagerie Peepshow Spectacular
Proudly Presents:
THE CLOWN OF GOD
A one man, ten minute show for an audience of two. Two audience members at a time climb under a black cloak and are privy to a miniature theatre spectacle. Adapted from a French folk tale of the same title, The Clown of God is an intensely intimate performance experience. The entire show takes place within the confines of an old accordion box, where the audience is led into a shadowy, melancholy world inhabited by the shows twenty-some characters, low-tech theater appliances and janky noise apparatus.
While most theater aspires to grow bigger and bigger, the Clown of God seems to get smaller and smaller, taking its audience to a place where scale has lost its normal significance and perspective ceases to function smoothly. Seeking to create an intimate work that would take theater outside of the theater and into peoples lives, their homes and workplaces, Mr. Harrell has performed the Clown of God in cloakrooms in Athens, bazaars in Bursa, kitchens in Istanbul, a sailboat on the Nile, dining rooms in Alexandria and Cairo, restaurants in southern India, basements in Rajasthan and roof tops in the Himalaya.
The show was created in the summer of 07 at the Bread and Puppet Theater by Teresa Camou Guerrero, Noah Harrell and Gabriel Harrell.
